About the War on Drugs

The "War on Drugs" movement really took hold in the 1970s as a government-led initiative that aimed to stop illegal drug use and distribution. Was it a failure? It depends on who you ask, as it was designed to achieve certain goals. (Tip: Think about when you first heard about the War on Drugs. How did that source shape what comes to mind when you think about the War on Drugs then? How about now?)

A Bit Relevant, a Bit Random

A fleeting, floating thought: You look up and see a feather floating down from the sky. Around the globe in that same moment, how many others are doing the exact same?

That's a lot of candles

Just how old is cannabis? We'd likely need over 28 million candles if we were to throw cannabis a birthday party. It's important to understand the timeline for when cannabis arrived on the scene and how humans intersected with the plant.

Ask yourself this: If humans have been using cannabis for thousands of years, then what conclusions could be reached about how cannabis affects the lives of humans? It's important to remember that the psychoactive effects of cannabis and the choices that each human makes about consumption are highly individualized.

Is cannabis use while off-duty allowed?

In Sophie Nieto-Munoz's recent article, "New Jersey cops are winning fight to use cannabis while off duty," the Garden State's first battle over whether law enforcement officers can use cannabis while off-duty was examined. In this New Jersey Monitor piece, it's confirmed that those partaking have won, setting important precedent for the future. While this is one of the first legal battles addressing cannabis use since adult-use became legal in New Jersey, it won't be the last.
